The Puggle is the mix breed or hybrid of the Pug and Beagle. Little is known about the history of this mix breed but we do know that Puggles have an extremely short history. We do not know very much about the time frame in which the first mix was created or why it was even mixed to begin with. We do know that the mix breed called the Puggle was created in the U.S. and that a man by the name of Wallace Havens was the first to actually register this hybrid into the American Canine Hybrid Club.
Puggles vary in appearance because they are a mix breed. Each litter will vary in looks based on the parents. But generally speaking, Puggles tend to be about 15-20 pounds, and 13-15 inches at the shoulders. The coloring of the Puggle can vary as well. Puggles are seen in colors such as all black to multicolored. Most Puggles are fawn with black masks. Puggles have a longer body than that of the Pug. The body resembles the Beagle more than the Pug. The nose is longer in size than that of the Pug as well.
Puggles are known to have a very calm mild personality of the Pug, but mixed with the outgoing wild personality of the Beagle. This mix of characteristics makes for a wonderful family pet. They are playful and seen as clown dogs yet will also lie in your lap and take a nap. Their winning personality is what makes them so loveable. They are wonderful with children, but should be trained to be less hyper active when smaller children are around.
Puggle puppies love to play contact games like tug of war and fetch. They will chase you for hours! Since they are so playful they can be hard to train at times. This will require lots of patience. All around, they are a wonderful mixed breed and require lots of love and attention. They tend to bark, but their bark is not as loud as the Beagle. They tend to have a more toned down sound.
The Puggle plays a family role and is seen as one of the top mixed breeds. They are very popular with children and families. They are easy going, laid back yet playful which makes them a wonderful choice for a family with children of all age groups. They are easy to care for and small enough for an apartment setting as well as a large home. They need lots of love and attention, which makes for a perfect pet!
